The liquor ban enforced by the SA government from 26 March to 01 June 2020 has severely affected many businesses in the alcoholic beverage trade, not least of them wine estates. I recently chatted to Guy Webber of Stellenbosch winery Hill & Dale, to understand how they have survived the lockdown, the support received from their regular customers and how Guy is personally now delivering the backlog of orders! Guy and I were supposed to be at the annual #stoeptasting wine event in Graaff-Reinet, my home town, where I was at Union High with Guy’s wife, Janet.
